About this site

98% of all businesses in BC are small. 89% are micro — fewer than 5 employees.

These aren't just statistics. They're the people behind your favourite coffee shop, the contractor who renovated your kitchen, the boutique owner who knows your name. They sponsor your kid's hockey team, show up at the food bank, and reflect the unique culture and values of their communities.

Large corporations don't do that. Small business owners do.

Why This Site Exists

Running a small business in BC is hard. Not because business owners lack drive or talent, but because the information, support, and resources they need are scattered, complicated, or buried in government websites. Being a business owner is lonely and challenging.

This blog exists to change that.

BCBusinessOwner.com covers the topics that matter most to BC's small and micro business owners: government grants and funding, regulations, hiring and HR, financial management, technology, AI, and more. Written in plain language. No fluff.

Who's Behind It

I'm a BC business owner myself, and for years I ran the BC Microbusiness Training Program, a $15 million provincial government initiative designed to help microbusiness owners access training and grow their businesses.

That experience gave me a front-row seat to the challenges BC's smallest businesses face every day, and a deep respect for the people who show up and do the work anyway.

This site is my way of continuing that mission.
